Purpose of the Job:

The purpose the Environmentalist is to ensure the prevalence of safe environmental management practice by ensuring the existence and implementation of the environment management system its compliance with Federal, regional, and local regulations related to hazardous material. Added to this he/she is responsible to maintain environmental management information systems to identify the location of hazardous sites, chemical inventories, and complaint investigations as well as developing and recommending solutions to eliminate/minimize pollution and environmental hazards.

Job Brief
We are looking for a qualified environmentalist to join our dynamic team. He/she is responsible for performing field inspections, , preparing detailed reports, and analyzing test samples. The environmentalist conducts field examinations and report hazardous locations and materials, maintains management information systems that identify the location of hazardous sites, chemical inventories, and complaint investigations and recommends solutions.

Job Requirements

• BSc degree in environmental science or relevant field with a minimum of 2 years demonstrated experience in a similar role in FMCG manufacturing industries
• Proven experience as environmentalist
• In depth knowledge of government legislation of environment protection
• Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in manufacturing industries
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities

Main Areas of Responsibility:
• Plans, coordinates and supervises the nursery operations & the extension activities of the farm;
• Ensures availability and adequate supply of ideal seedlings, ensures successful achievement of ideal seedling preparation, transplanting.
• Exert technical skill , and handles materials used in the farm to enhance better production in terms of quantity and quality,
• Conducts participatory monitoring and evaluation /assessment on the performance regarding all operations like adequate land preparation, proper transplanting, plant spacing, irrigation, cultivation, fertilization, weeding, pest control , topping.
• Ensures that "Minimum Agronomic Standards" (MAS) are implemented on the above mentioned operations.
• Work according to planning given by production agronomists
• Serve as observers for production agronomists in the field, inform them about problems encountered in the field
• Record work registration data
• Inform production agronomists about progress, workers issues or production related problems
• Coordinate activities assigned to the group by production agronomists; such as harvesting, crop maintenance, bed preparation, planting, uprooting, weeding, cleaning, or construction and maintenance related tasks
• Check and monitor quality of work by the general workers
• Discipline workers by assigning them alternative tasks, or report them to production agronomists.
• Daily checking plants growing status.
• Organizing the team so that workers are performing their duties effectively and efficiently.
• Supervise, coach and educate the general workers in the group.
• Conduct evaluation whether daily activities are done as per the schedule.
• Processing daily fertilizer program.
• Prepares and submits progress report periodically.
• Performs other duties given by the immediate supervisor.

Educational Background
• BSC in Plant Science, Agriculture, Horticulture and related field of study
• At least 2 years related work experience preferably in similar industry
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Able to work with minimum supervision.
• Basic Computer Skills, MS word, excel, power point, outlook
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; both in English & Amharic
• Strong Leadership skill.
