Job Description
The holder of this position will be required to conduct laboratory testing of Tantalum samples using XRF technology at Addis Ababa head office along with field operations Guji and Borana zones.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
• Identifying new opportunities leading to acquisition of materials.
• Conducting due-diligence studies of existing Tantalum artisanal mining cooperatives.
• Coordinate QA/QC programs of onsite procurement of shipments.
• Analyze samples using XRF technologies.
• Ensuring all projects are compliant with government policies and procedure.
• Site collection, organization, and storage of tantalum shipments.
• Meeting with the relevant federal authorities (e.g., the Ministry of Mines, East Guji Zonal Mining Bureau, Oromia Mining Authority)
• Conduct a rapid assessment of artisanal minors at Guji Zone to better understand their technical capacity and guide the ASM mining development.
• Improved ASM Tantalum recovery techniques and finding primary deposits.
• Produce a map for a selected area in the zone that shows potential tantlaum mining sites.
• Undertaking regional and deposit scale geological mapping to assess tin-coltan potential.
• Maintaining standards of logging, data capture and sectional interpretations.
• Undertaking structural, lithological, geotechnical and assay correlations to enhance understanding of tin-coltan mineralization.
• Management and collation of geological data.

Job Requirements
• Bachelor of Science (Geology) or Bachelor’s degree plus Honours in Geology, Mining Geology, earth sciences or equivalent.
• A minimum of 4 years relevant experience in grade control and Mining Geology in Guji Zone.
• Practical experience with tantalum exploration and deposit characterization, ideally in the Adola area.
• Available to travel to Guji and Borana zones,
• Valid drivers’ license – Manual
• Experience in mining in East Guji and ASM mining management
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Role and responsibilities
The purpose of the LFS Coordinator position is to implement delegated LFS project portfolio within Benishangul Gumuz and neighbouring Amhara, managing the day-to-day activities of LFS staff to ensure proper delivery, high quality results and compliance to applicable laws, standards, practices, policies and procedures. The following is a brief description of the role.
Generic responsibilities
1. Line management of LFS project field staff
2. Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures and awareness of NRC global and regional strategies
3. Contribute to LFS strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps, considering where appropriate the role of cash-based interventions and market-based programmes
4. Manage and implement delegated portfolio of LFS projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from Area Programme Manager (APM) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
5. Provide regular progress reports to APM and AM as required
6. Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
7. Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities
8. Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
9. Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
10. Promote the rights of refugees, IDPs and returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
Specific responsibilities
• Lead need assessments to identify gaps and opportunities and submit comprehensive assessment report to the APM and LFS Specialist
• Identify implementation opportunities for cash-based interventions and market-based programmes and support staff to implement quality and timely projects
• Contribute to creating an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions, working with support teams in the institutionalization of cash-based programmes (capacity building, guidance and SOP development).
• Identify business opportunities/schemes for individuals, groups, mechanisms to strengthen capacity building and scale up options which include entrepreneurship, skill development, Micro financing, business management and prepare an action plan to support for small size enterprises for refugees, IDPs and host community
• Actively participate in different relevant forums, meetings, and working groups
• Prepare community-based planning workshops, participation analysis, and analyse and document relevant workshop outcomes
• Prepare training packages on income generation, business management, and livelihoods
• Establish close collaboration with relevant stakeholders on the enrolment and apprenticeship of youth programming /TVET and other relevant institutions as required
• Participate in monitoring of project activities as required and review, refine indicators based on monitoring results and visibility with line manager and M&E staff
• Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans of the specific responsibility given and share it with the Area Program Manager and relevant bodies.
• Strengthen an integrated progamming approach in all activities at area office level
• Responsible for filing of project documents according on ET filing tree and ensure timely Reconciliation of Deliverables according to the Securing Supporting Documents policy
• Responsible to ensure GORS data for LFS activities are reported accurately on a monthly basis

Job Requirements
Generic professional competencies for this position:
• Minimum of B.Sc./BA degree in agriculture, agricultural extension and rural development agribusiness, or another related field
• Minimum five years’ experience from working in an LFS project implementation position in a humanitarian/recovery context Previous experience working on IDPs,Returns,Refugee and from working in complex and volatile contexts
• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
• Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context related skills, knowledge and experience (shall be adapted to the specific position):
• Knowledge of the humanitarian context in Benishangul Gumuz, and fluency in local languages is an asset
• Experience of working with government authorities and other stakeholders

Irrigation Expert/Officer

Major Duties and Responsibilities of this post include:
Within the delegated authority and under the given organizational set-up, the incumbent may be assigned the primary, shared, or contributory accountabilities for all or part of the following areas of major duties and key end-results. To improve agricultural production of the target beneficiaries, Irrigation Expert/Officer will be primarily responsible to design, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate Islamic Relief’s Irrigation Project in coordination with Project Manager, Senior livelihood Officer and Livelihood Coordinator. He/she is ultimately responsible for getting projects are accomplished as per plan and conditions.
• Identifies formal and informal sources of information and collects, and report all available data on the evolving situation in the sector.
• Keeps the effective flow of information and communication crucial for the planning and implementation of measures in Agriculture sector.
• Advise on the cultivation of food crops, vegetables, fruit trees and fodder crops that is adaptable to the area;
• Design and assist in implementing demonstration plots for innovative agricultural crops & agronomic practices;
• Provide technical support to the post-harvest handling and marketing of local agricultural products;
• Working together with Senior WASH and livelihood Officers and assist local communities in setting up water user groups;
• Taking part in supervision of works, acceptance of works related to irrigation scheme development;
• Contribute to the elaboration of environmental and social impact assessments for the individual measures to be implemented;

Senior WASH Officer

Major Duties and Responsibilities of this post include:

To improve the Water and Sanitation condition of the target beneficiaries, Senior WASH Officer will be primarily responsible to design, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate Islamic Relief’s WASH Project in coordination with Project Manger, WASH Coordinator. He/she is ultimately responsible for getting projects are accomplished as per plan and conditions.


WASH Preparedness and Response
• Identifies formal and informal sources of information and collects, and report all available data on the evolving situation in the sector.
• Keeps the effective flow of information and communication crucial for the planning and implementation of measures in WASH sector.
• Assists in organizing, mentor and couches project staff and partners to strengthen the capacity building in WASH preparedness and response.
• Ensure that WASH activities including well drilling and ODF Camapigns and targets are achieved through regular monitoring and supervision;
• Provides input in and contributes toward determining priorities and an appropriate intervention by Islamic Relief and coordinates with other partners to make a WASH assessment and feasibility study.
• Collaborate with community groups, government, UN agencies and other partners who are active in WASH intervention in the area like Zonal and Woreda administrations and water sector and Disaster Risk Management officials so as to establish conducive working environment, promote transparency, ensure support of sector offices, increase stakeholder participation
• Ensure timely delivery of assistance and procurement of WASH supplies, and monitors the appropriate and effective use of Islamic Relief resources. Identifies problems and constraints in project delivery.
• Led detail WASH technical assessments and feasibility studies, prepare BoQs for different project activities.
• Share weekly WASH situation reports to concerned parties as required.
• Assists in identifying longer-term requirements of WASH intervention/operations.
• Regularly monitor WASH activities like construction hygiene and sanitation activities and coordinate with other sector interventions.

WASH Project
• Participates in the implementation of plans of action for WASH project under his assignment.
• The development of detailed implementation plans, maintaining WASH rapid response capacity, and monitoring program delivery in line with Islamic Relief minimum standards for WASH according to standards, policies and procedures of the organization and donor
• Undertakes day to day field visits to target communities, to assess local conditions and monitor project progress. Carries out project administration. Prepares inputs and updates for further appeals related to Water scheme facility construction.
• Collects and analyses lessons learnt from IR's WASH operations experience.
• Works with other colleagues to make sure that disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness and response strategies are mainstreamed.
• Actively play a role towards community empowerment through community mobilization strategies and approaches, design operational strategies for community participation as working committees, women group, youth group etc.
• Prepare project annual and quarterly action plans and budget, when approved implement to achieve intended objectives, outputs, activities and targets;
• Identify required WASH supplies, ensure quality of materials and prepare bill of quantities.
• Prepare and submit regular project reports to Senior Project officer.
