The Psychosocial officer is working under the supervision of the Project Manager. The PSS officer is based in Somali Region, Fafan Zone, and Gursum Wereda with travel to Jigjiga and Dire Dawa.
The main objective of the post is to initiate, ensure, coordinate and follow up all activities in need of psycho social support within the main CBR project tasks of livelihood, rehabilitation and awareness.
The psychosocial officer will make sure that all activities in need of psycho social support in the process of CBR project implementation are implemented with the required time frame and within available budget, insuring that HI technical framework is respected; managed the CBR workers; represent HI by delegation and ensures a smooth relationship with all stakeholders, partners and beneficiaries.

Project Implementation
- Provide direct psychosocial support to person with disabilities and caregivers
- Design and implement psychosocial activities, including individual and group counselling, parenting activities, etc.
- Develop or adopt adequate PSS tools.
- Facilitate community conversations and awareness raising activities using IEC and public events in collaboration with project staffs.
- Conduct home visits together with the CBR workers as consulted by physiotherapist on need basis and provide some psychosocial support in their premises.
- Support beneficiaries referred to Karamara hospital rehabilitation centres.
- Ensures persons with disabilities and care givers have positive mind sets on Income Generating Activities (IGAs),
- Ensures proper documentation is put in place
- Prepares case stories and reports as required by the project
- Works closely with other project staffs, Government stakeholders and CBR committees for the realization of project objectives and goals
- Performs other, similar duties as assigned by the Project Manager
Human Resources
• Participate in the recruitment of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) workers.
• Provide technical guidance, on the job training, coaching and mentoring to CBR workers on child protection, parenting and other PSS supports
• Flourishing team sprit among the staff members and participate periodic general staff meeting.
• Support the physiotherapist and socio economic integration officer whenever needed.
Quality M&E and Reporting
• Ensure the high quality of activities implemented as indicated in the project proposal document.
• Participate on regular monitoring, midterm and final evaluation of the project in consultation of the PM and M&E Officer and documentation and dissemination of lessons learned and good practices to relevant bodies.
• Work in close collaboration with the PM and HI M&E Officer to monitor the project outcomes and results are as per indicated performance indicators.
• Implement the project’s approach in terms of realization and impact. Identify and implement technical or documentary resources or additional skills for guaranteeing the quality of the project.
• Implement the formalized tools and methods developed within the project framework.
• Compile/write and submit activity, monthly and quarterly report for the PM.
• Support the PM during preparation of Monthly, quarterly, contractual, annual and terminal report preparation for HI, donor and authorities as per the requirement.
Administration, Finance and Logistics
• In collaboration with the PM, properly implement/manage the financial resources of the project in accordance with the budget frame set and guidelines of HI and the concerned donor.
• Prepare and submit monthly time sheet
• In collaboration with the PM, properly utilize/manage the project’s logistical and material resources.
• Actively participate on preparation of procurement plan and budget forecast.
• In collaboration with the PM and admin/finance team, ensure that the project implementation respects HI’s financial and administrative policies and procedures.
Coordination and Representation
• Ensure good level of communication and leasing with partners as well as stakeholders operational in the project area, zonal and regional level working on persons with disabilities and rehabilitation.
• Up on delegation from the PM, represent HI and attend cluster meeting with NGOs in Fafan zone and Somali regional state.
• In collaboration with the PM, Coordinates meetings to share lesson learned, experience and good practices of the project with partner bureaus and relevant NGOs and advocating for the rights and wellbeing of persons with disabilities.
Job Requirements
Education & Qualification
• Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, counseling, or Sociology, Social Work;
Knowledge and Professional Experience required
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as psychologist or social worker;
• Experience in Community-based protection and awareness raising in humanitarian settings;
• Good knowledge of data collection, analysis and reporting;
• Knowledge of working area language (Somali) is Must.
• Computer literacy (Word, Excel and Power Point).
• High degree of confidentiality.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work with teams and develop team spirit.
• Diligence and attention to detail.
• Never been convicted, free from khat, smoking, alcohol and substance abuse addictions.
