Co-create Innovative Products
Komari beverage plc was founded in March 2018, not long after two friends had a chat about the idea on a balcony in Addis Ababa. This casual conversation quickly turned into a full-blown discussion. The basic idea was that consumers deserved something different to drink, something made with the consumers themselves.
In the months following, the initial idea rapidly developed into a full-scale business plan. They started to reach out to friends and acquaintances to explore how it could be done. Since then, the company has gone from two friends to over 100 staff, from a kitchen-based ‘laboratory’ to a state-of-the-art factory, and from an idea to a beverage created with the inputs of thousands of consumers.
We are so thankful for all those who gave their time, and their taste buds, to create something truly unique and exciting—a drink made for and with the people who enjoy it. We are proud to introduce Ethiopia’s first locally made hard seltzer.
Our first flavors are just the beginning. We look forward to keep creating the most exciting beverage experiences for anyone who wants more.
What We Do & What We Hope To Create By Doing It
We focus on choice and innovation in creating our drinks. We start making our drinks by asking our consumers what flavors excite them. We then use this feedback to create beverages with these flavors. Through meticulous testing, feedback and product improvements – tasted over and over by the consumer – we create drinks that are enjoyable for when you need a break, to have fun or just to relax with friends and family.
To some, this is a small part of the journey.
To us, it is everything we do.
Co-creation: Making Arada With Thousands Of Consumers
Too many products are created in a lab, or simply copied from other markets – whereas palates can differ considerably. When Komari was founded in 2018, the one core value we therefore decided on was co-creation: creating beverages by intensively involving consumers in the product development process.
We took to the streets to interview, survey and ask people in Addis Ababa as well as around the country what excited them. We invited people for rounds and rounds of tastings: we let our consumers decide the product’s entire configuration. Doing this has both humbled and inspired us – and we can’t wait for more to come.
We are excited and thankful to have co-created Arada Hard Seltzer: the first home-grown Hard Seltzer, made for Ethiopians by Ethiopians. It’s not just our flavors: every aspect of our product and brand starting from the name ‘Arada’ to the label and packaging, has been developed closely with consumers.
Our commitment to co-creation does not stop, and will not stop, with our current flavors – or products. We’re working on new ways to surprise and excite – and are looking forward to include you in the process.
